Written: Mrs. Johnson is a 9th grade English teacher with a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. To culminate a novel unit, Mrs. Johnson required students to create podcasts using various characters from the selection of novels they read over the course of the school year. Since this occurred around Valentine's Day, students were charged with creating a personal ad in a newspaper as a character from one of the novels. They then "answered" these personal ads using a podcast format with a partner of the opposite sex. With assistance from a colleague, Mrs. Johnson modeled a sample podcast for her students. She demonstrated how to appropriately select characters, create a personal ad, record dialogue, and upload the content to itunes. Once students understood the process, female students were paired with male students. While "in character" students recorded their personal ad using Audacity. After recording the dialogue, students uploaded their podcasts using i-tunes. This unit should take 4 or 5 60-minute class periods to complete.
